VALUING DIVERSITY AT PENN

 VALUING DIVERSITY AT PENN

There are now more faces and diversity among the workforce than ever before and this trend is expected to continue well into the 21st century. Leaders in public and private organizations continue to search for and experiment with various approaches to more effectively deal with increasing workforce diversity. The concept of diversity management has become deeply rooted at Penn. Broadly defined, the term diversity management refers to the systematic and planned commitment to recruit, retain, reward, and promote a heterogeneous mix of employees. Diversity itself can be defined as taking full advantage of the rich backgrounds and abilities of all by recognizing and valuing differences, seeking inclusiveness, and considering and honoring differing points of view. Equal employment opportunity is the core concept that unifies diversity and affirmative action efforts; that everyone should have equal access to employment opportunities.
